Figuring out MARTIN’S

I am starting to get a feel for MARTIN’S.  I have decided that although I don’t like the fact that they will only double one like coupon per customer per day it is nice that any coupon that is $0.50 or over is doubled to a $1.  I also was able to redeem my $1 Catalina from the Shout Advanced stain remover refill from last week and earn an additional one today with another Shout Advanced stain remover refill (I used it in a separate transaction just to be sure it wouldn’t cause a problem) and earn a $4 Catalina with the Edy’s promo on the front page of the ad.  I was able to use coupons and still earn the Catalina.  I ended up with 2 boxes of Drumsticks & 2 boxes of Frozen Fruit Bars for $6 after coupons and earning the Catalina. I also got free pancake mix and syrup by purchasing coffee and Canadian bacon.  (I spent a total of $5.99 on the coffee and Canadian Bacon.)  I needed to pick-up coffee for church and the Canadian bacon will be great for breakfast or on top of pizza (or both).

Here is a picture of the groceries that Megan and I picked up this morning while Natalie was at preschool:

How are you doing with MARTIN’S?  Have you found any great deals or special insider tips?

A little of this & that…

I have had a crazy last two weeks.  We had one impromptu and one scheduled meeting that went late (like after 10PM) last week and my 15 hour shift on Saturday put me in a downward tailspin.  The extra 13 hours (over two days) I had to put in this week to learn a new pharmacy computer system for MARTIN’S this week didn’t help.  So, enough of my whining.  I had a doctor’s appointment yesterday that allowed me to have a babysitter watch the girls and give me some “me time” (in addition to seeing some more pictures of the little guy who looks healthy and is growing like crazy.)  I was able to relax a little after the appointment with a manicure and pedicure, hit CVS & Walgreens, met Steve for dinner, and then we headed to a baby class.  It was nice to be out of the house without going to work and without kids and to have a quick meal with Steve to talk and catch-up without little interruptions.

Our neighborhood is having a community yard sale this weekend and I am debating about participating.  Because of our busy schedules the last 2 weeks I haven’t really pulled much out, but I do have some things that I have pulled out in the past that I would like to unload.  I am also considering selling some of my unopened stockpiled toiletry items.  I realized I have TONS of body wash, shampoo, toothpaste, and razors.  My rule of thumb is that I don’t spend more than $1 after sales and coupons on these items.  I was thinking about marking them $2 and then figuring out what I want to do with the money.  I found out that one of my neighbors’ husband and daughter are going on a missions trip this summer and she is using her yard sale to help fund their trip.  (She called me and told me she has lots of little boys clothes if I wanted to come check them out.)  I may look at doing something like that with our profits.

I have had a chance in the last few weeks to find some little boy clothes on sale at different children’s clothing stores.  I have an Old Navy credit card and last week was part of the “stuff the bag” promo they have about twice a year.  This promotion gives you an additional 20% off your entire purchase including sale and clearance merchandise.  I found lots of little boy clothes in an assortment of sizes.  (Our girls were larger babies and this little guy is already measuring by ultrasound a week larger than he should be so we won’t need many little clothes.)  Some of the things were so cute I couldn’t pass them up – like the oxford shirt and sweater vest.  I also found a few things at The Children’s Place for the little guy.  Natalie actually helped me pick out a few things.  She is getting excited about having a baby brother and she picked some clothes and said “Ohhh, won’t he look so cute in this.”

Here are pictures of the baby clothes I got at both stores last week (I couldn’t squeeze it all into one picture):

DSC_3227

DSC_3228

I got an assortment of pants, tops, and some pajamas at Old Navy that were originally $283.50 marked down to $137.69 and an additional 20% off for a grand total of $110.17 (before tax).  That gives me a savings of $173.33 or 61%!

I got a pair of overalls, a few shirts, a sleeper, and some socks at The Children’s Place that were originally $45.50 marked down to $19.96.  That gave me a savings of $25.54 or 56%!

I now have a few baby boy clothes.  I have several friends who have offered up some clothes to us and I will probably check out my neighbor’s yard sale tomorrow.  I am sure he will end up with more than enough clothes!

MARTIN’S coupon match-ups for 4/25-5/1

logo_MARTINS

I am slowly getting a feel for MARTIN’S.  I am still learning the ins and outs of the store.  I did find out last week when I bought a Shout stain remover that I received a Catalina for $1 off my next shopping trip.  I didn’t realize they even had a Catalina machine, so it was an added bonus.  There are a few offers that look like they will be generating Catalinas (such as the Edy’s Ice Cream on the first page of the ad).  I don’t know if there is another whole set of guidelines for redeeming and possibly rolling these.  When I figure it out I will be happy to share the info.

These are the guidelines that I have read and figured out so far for MARTIN’S coupon policy:

  • MARTIN’S will double manufacturer coupons up to $0.50 everyday.
  • MARTIN’S will only double one “like” manufacturer coupon per customer per day.  (This means that even if you buy two bags of frozen veggies and have two coupons only one will double.)
  • MARTIN’S will “double” the difference of a coupon with a value of $0.51-$0.98 and $1 to give you up to $1 off.  (I had $0.55 coupons that “doubled” $0.45 giving me $1 off.)
  • MARTIN’S does accept internet printable coupons up to a face value of $5, they do not accept coupons for a “free” item.  This includes buy one get one free.
  • You must buy both items to get the free item with buy one get one free promotions. (You can’t buy one item at “half price”.)
  • If you are buying 2 items with a buy one get one free promotion you can still use a coupon that covers both items.

    Ukrop’s Match-ups for the week of 4/26 –5/1

    ukropslogo

It is getting really sad to walk into a Ukrop’s these days.  I have to admit I have found some great clearance deals, but it still saddens me as to the reason why.  The shelves in the remaining stores are bare and the ad is rather slim as well. If you want to see an on-line version of the ad click here.  There are some good deals still out there and it looks like free toothbrushes on Wednesday.

Don’t forget that MARTIN’S won’t be doubling coupons over $0.50 so if you have any higher value coupons you have been holding onto it may be a good time to use them.

Here are some guidelines for Ukrop’s coupon policy:

  • Ukrop’s will double manufacturer coupons up to $0.99 on Wednesdays only.

  • Ukrop’s will not double more than 5 like coupons per transaction.

  • Ukrop’s does accept internet printable (IP) coupons up to a face value of $2.  They do not accept IP coupons for a free item.  This includes buy 1 get 1 free.

  • Match-ups are coming….

I am running behind on my match-ups.  I had to take a l-o-n-g Sunday afternoon nap after church because I ended up working a 15 hour shift Saturday (9AM – Midnight).  They needed a pharmacist to stay in the pharmacy with the IT guys who were installing our new computer system and cash register for MARTIN’S.  I was playing catch-up on some household things yesterday and today I have identified potential match-ups but still need to pull my inserts to verify they were in our coupon inserts and the value of the coupon.  Unfortunately, this won’t get finished this afternoon.  I have to go the first part of a 12 hour training session on the new computer system (the second half is tomorrow morning).  I will hopefully get it all finished tonight when I get home.  Just another crazy week in my crazy world.  :)

    Thanks for understanding!

Ukrop’s Double Coupon Wednesday and Weekly Deals (4/19-4/24)

    ukropslogo

If you have been in a Ukrop’s recently I am sure you have noticed how bare it is.  My store is closing for the conversion to MARTIN’S on Saturday.  I was in there last night and saw them marking down lots of stuff.  I really didn’t get much.  My pantry is overflowing and the deals weren’t that different from what I had already snagged at other stores.  Not to mention the way they were doing it was filling up a shopping cart and then bringing it to the front of the store.  There was a group of about 10–15 vultures people who were waiting for each new cart to come up.  Being almost 6 months pregnant and having a 4 year-old with me - I did not feel like fighting a crowd so that I could get hot chocolate mixes for $0.50 each.  (I can do that with coupons.)

The ad is almost as bare as the store shelves were.  There are a few good deals and don’t forget to see if you can match up some of your $0.75 off coupons while they double up to $1.50 on Wednesday.  If you want to see an on-line version of this week’s ad click here

Here are some guidelines for using coupons at Ukrop’s:

  • Ukrop’s will double manufacturer coupons up to $0.99 on Wednesdays only.

  • Ukrop’s will not double more than 5 like coupons per transaction.

  • Ukrop’s does accept internet printable (IP) coupons up to a face value of $2.  They do not accept IP coupons for a free item.  This includes buy 1 get 1 free.

  • Weekly Deals at MARTIN’S (4/18 – 4/24)

    logo_MARTINS

Ok, so here it goes – my first coupon match-ups for MARTIN’S.  I made a second trip there late Monday night to check out and test a few things about their coupon policy.  This is what I have found out about their coupon policy

(I bought 2 packages of bacon that were on a buy one get one free sale and then used a coupon for $1 off 2 packages of bacon.)

I mentioned in a previous post about FREE Snuggle this week.  I also found FREE Olivio butter spread, FREE Ronzoni Smart Pasta, FREE Mighty Dog canned food, and FREE Honest Tea in addition to several inexpensive items.  Check out my spreadsheet to see how to get these deals.

MARTIN’S has a 20 page ad, so I am only listing the items that are on sale and have a coupon available to make a good deal an even better deal.  If you want to see the full ad on-line click here
